All business in the front, and a big party in the back – these vehicles are a declaration of independence and carry symbolic weight as an affirmation of self.

Given the rise in attention around the 6×6 designed for personal use in recent years, what may seem like a new concept, has been around for decades. Designed to tackle challenging tasks and traverse the roughest terrain, the earliest examples utilizing the all-wheel-drive, three-axle platform, are heavy-duty military trucks – used worldwide to carry significant loads to remote areas.

Modern iterations are still used today as public service and transport vehicles like dump trucks and semi-trucks.

The design proved to be more effective than a traditional 4×4 because the third axle allowed the load capacity to be increased by 50-percent. With the load weight distributed more evenly across the rear wheels, the additional length and the extra stability help keep the vehicle composed and less affected by road imperfections.

With such a capable vehicle, it was only a matter of time before the public started to take an interest in the 6×6 for personal use.

Today’s 6×6 trucks may not be transporting hefty cargo loads, but there is no denying that they mean business upfront, with an undoubtedly impressive presence. Part of the allure is attributed to the party at the rear.

Dodge was ahead of its time when it debuted its full-time personal use 6×6 concept truck at the 1996 SEMA Show. Based on a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually, with four wheels on a single rear axle, the concept – dubbed the Ram T-Rex 6×6 – converted the truck to a dual rear axle setup.

Despite never making it into production, the 6×6 T-Rex helped pave the way for the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX custom 6×6 developed by Apocalypse Manufacturing, which named it “Warlord.” The truck sold for $275,000 at the 2022 Scottsdale Auction.

The original 6×6 T-Rex also helped set the stage for the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 6×6.

The AMG G63 6×6 is based on a model developed for the Australian Army in 2007. Demand for the vehicle was more potent than anticipated, and Mercedes-Benz sold slightly more than 100 of its 6×6 trucks. Today, the desire for these trucks remains strong, and the vehicles command seven figures at auction. At the 2022 Scottsdale Auction, a 2014 Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 6×6 outfitted with the Brabus B63s 700 package, crossed the block for $1,210,000. Coincidentally, this is the same amount a stock 2014 Mercedes-Benz G63 6×6 sold for during the 2019 Scottsdale Auction.

Even look-a-likes demand attention. During the 2021 Las Vegas Auction, a 1995 Mercedes-Benz G350D – transformed into a custom 6×6 – sold for $181,500.

2012 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED CUSTOM 6X6 PICKUP – SOLD! $71,500

In 2021, 6×6 Jeeps also gained significant traction. In Houston of that year, a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Custom 6×6 crossed the block for $71,500. A 2021 Jeep Gladiator Custom 6×6 sold at the Las Vegas event for $112,200. Then, at the 2022 Scottsdale Auction, a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Custom 6×6 sold for $165,000.

6×6 vehicles aren’t just a fad to be forgotten with time. Interest will continue to grow. There were six 6×6 vehicles offered during the 2022 Palm Beach auction.

Among those was a 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Custom 6×6 Pickup named “Warlord II,” which sold for $165,000; a 2021 Ford Bronco 6X6 named “Dark Horse” for $178,200; and a 2022 Jeep Gladiator custom 6×6 pickup named “Hellfire” for $236,500. Additionally, a 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Custom 6×6 Pickup sold for $145,200, followed by a 2022 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Custom Crewcab 6×6 Pickup for $146,300.

“The Savage Bull,” a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited custom 6×6 pickup was additionally offered to raise $250,000 at the Palm Beach event, with 100-percent of its hammer price benefiting Can’d Aid.

Custom or factory, a 6×6 undoubtably makes a statement.
