Lot #1342 – 1972 Jaguar E-Type Custom Roadster by Beacham will be selling with No Reserve at our 2022 Scottsdale Auction.
This 1972 E-Type Jaguar is an entirely different animal from the one you might remember. This right-hand drive customized cat has been treated to a whole new lease on life thanks to the extraordinary talents of Beacham Special Vehicles in New Zealand—where they specialize in upgrading classic Jaguar models.
This Jaguar being offered with No Reserve at the 2022 Scottsdale Auction was reborn in 2013. Naturally, the Jag’s magnificent body lines were left untouched. How could they be improved upon? It’s been said Enzo Ferrari himself declared the Jaguar to be the most beautiful car in the world. The New York Museum of Modern Art even owns one.
Beauty is a given, so it’s under the skin where the modifications begin. It starts with a virtually new drivetrain including an aluminum dual overhead cam supercharged 4.2-liter V8 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission, both normally found under the bonnet of the late-model XKR series. As you might imagine various elements had to be reengineered to accomplish this installation including a custom subframe with redesigned motor mounts to accommodate the wider V8 engine and the front suspension assembly. Final fit and finish make the engine look like it was born to be there. That’s the secret behind building a car like this one—vastly upgraded underpinnings supporting a finished product that appears to have just rolled off the factory production line.
A stainless steel exhaust system was crafted and incorporates a cross-over pipe to equalize pressure and maximize the flow. Out back they culminate in twin center mounted outlets.
Modern electronics flow through this custom Jag offering many current safety systems such as ABS, traction control and air bags. Other features that are standard equipment on this particular E-Type include diamond stitched tan leather seats with black piping. The sweet fragrance of leather radiates from the Jaguar’s entire cockpit and embodies the brand’s tradition of plushness. Automatic climate control, power windows and locks, power adjustable steering, a navigation system with premium audio, a fully integrated custom console and a polished wood veneer dashboard deliver the luxury that the Jaguar name evokes.
Naturally, modern 4-wheel disc brakes are on board and promise to keep this cat completely under control anywhere and anytime. Beautiful chrome wire wheels teamed with modern high-performance tires combine to provide the sure-footedness of the animal this car was named after.
When you see this sleek, muscular Jaguar run across the stage this January in Scottsdale don’t let it roar right past you. This could be the first black cat to ever cross your path and bring you nothing but good luck for decades to come.
