A MIGHTY FRIDAY: Day Two at Barrett-Jackson Houston Shines with Little Red and More Record Sales

At the Little Red/Shelby event on Friday in the Ford exhibit: Craig Jackson with (from left) Jason Billups of Billups Classic Cars; Kash Singh, Global Ford Performance Enthusiast Marketing Manager; and Aaron Shelby, Carroll Shelby’s grandson and co-president of the Carroll Shelby Foundation.

As many Barrett-Jackson fans know, the auction itself is just one part of what happens around the massive event site each day.

On Friday in the Ford Motor Company booth there was a very special presentation of two historically significant vehicles from 1967 – Craig Jackson’s fabled “lost” Ford Shelby GT500 known as “Little Red” and the only Shelby GT500 convertible built that year – marking the first time the two big-block concept cars have ever been displayed side by side. Both Jackson and Aaron Shelby (Carroll Shelby’s grandson) were on hand to honor the legacy these cars represent.

Onstage in the morning, the auction block was illuminated by colorful blinking neon signs, pristine restored gas pumps and globes, vintage porcelain and tin signs, soda collectibles and more nostalgic pieces of our past.

Friday’s top seller: a 1967 Ford Mustang Eleanor Tribute Edition, which brought in $330,000.

From tractors and Toyotas to Mustangs and Maseratis, Friday’s Collector Car Auction offered a little something for everyone! Topping the list for the day was a 1967 Ford Mustang Eleanor Tribute Edition, which sold for $330,000, while two Chevrolet Camaros – one a custom from 1968 and the other an original SS from 1969 – as well as a custom 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS were also among the top sellers on Friday.

The day also saw more record sales, including a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible, a custom 1986 Ford Bronco and a 2018 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider.

The star of the day at the Automobilia Auction on Friday was an impeccable Flying A Service animated neon porcelain sign from the 1940s/50s, which sold for a whopping $77,050.

Neon signs had a big day at Friday’s Automobilia Auction, with a Flying A Service example (left) taking top honors with a sale price of $77,050, a Westinghouse Appliances sign from the 1940s/50s (center) selling for $12,650, and a late 1950s/early ’60s Texaco Oil neon brought in $28,750.

Also among the top automobilia sellers for the day was a late 1950s/early 1960s Texaco Oil neon porcelain sign ($28,750), as well as a beautifully restored Mobil Oil gas pump from the 1950s ($25,300). In the “not something you see everyday” category was an all-original, museum-quality coin-operated Cracker Jack dispenser, which went to its new home for $11,500.

Fasten your seatbelts, because the best is yet to come: Be sure to get your tickets today for Super Saturday! In addition to all there is to do and see around the auction site at NRG Center (including the complimentary Thrill Rides and Hot Laps in the latest vehicles from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge and Toyota), the action in auction arena itself will be electrifying with some amazing rides – including the 1979 Porsche 928 used in the movie “Risky Business,” Sir Stirling Moss’ 1966 Shelby GT350, two stunning 2019 Ford GTs, some incredible examples of American muscle cars and stunning custom pickups and SUVs – crossing the block.
