WITH CRAIG JACKSON AT THE HELM, THE COMPANY IS CELEBRATING 50 SUCCESSFUL YEARS IN THE COLLECTOR CAR HOBBY. CRAIG IS ALSO AN AVID CAR COLLECTOR, AWARD-WINNING RESTORER AND RACING ENTHUSIAST.
Well, if there’s one thing our 2021 Las Vegas Auction in June illustrated, the collector car industry is alive and well! It was exciting to be the very first event open to the public in the new West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. It’s clear there was a not only a demand for fine collector cars, but also for a return to a sense of normalcy that we’d all been craving. We were very happy with the results. As you’ll read in the recap of the event, we had some awesome charity moments, the sales were exceptional and some impressive records were set along the way, just like we witnessed at our March auction in Scottsdale.
That event was the perfect prelude to our brand-new Houston Auction, September 16-18. I’m very much looking forward to our first-ever event in Texas. The car culture in this part of the nation is fantastic; many of the largest car collectors in the country hail from the Lone Star State.
And because we needed a venue as big as Texas, we chose NRG Center, which is a great location that will allow us to present the full, unrivalled Barrett-Jackson experience to fans in this part of the country. The invitation-only Opening Night Party will be in full swing the evening of September 15, and the Barrett-Jackson Performance Track we’re building there – where attendees can go on hot laps or breathtaking thrill rides in the latest vehicles from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge and Toyota – will be our largest ever.
Being in the Houston area will bring back lots of childhood memories for me. NRG Center is located near the River Oaks neighborhood of the city, within the 610 Loop between Downtown and Uptown. My dad’s sister lived there and belonged to the River Oaks Country Club; I’ve been visiting there since I was a kid. The shopping, dining and hotel choices in the area are nothing short of phenomenal, giving our guests a wealth of options, all within easy reach of NRG Center.
We’re getting some great vehicles lined up for the Houston Auction that will be selling with No Reserve, which you’ll read about in these pages. They showcase the diversity of offerings for which Barrett-Jackson has become known, including a very low-mileage 2019 Ford GT, the 1979 Porsche 928 driven by Tom Cruise in “Risky Business,” a stunning 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Resto-Mod, Sir Stirling Moss’ GT350 race car, an incredible 1960 Maserati Tipo 61 “Birdcage” re-creation, and an impressive selection of fine vehicles from a number of prominent collections.
In addition to bringing our unique automotive lifestyle event to yet another part of the United States, Barrett-Jackson is also expanding in other exciting ways. We were pleased to recently announce the acquisition of the Collector Car Network, Inc., including its well-known properties ClassicCars.com, AutoHunter, The ClassicCars.com Journal and the Future Collector Car Show. It’s part of our commitment to continue expanding the hobby, attracting the next generation of enthusiasts and helping grow the collector car market.
I look forward to seeing you all at our Inaugural Houston Auction – our team has worked hard to make this an event that everyone will enjoy. Celebrating the collector car hobby in Houston is going to be big – just like everything in Texas and at Barrett-Jackson!
Houston, here we come!
