RARE AND READY TO ROLL IN LAS VEGAS: This No Reserve 2015 McLaren P1 is one of just 375 produced

Originally owned by renowned DJ and record producer Deadmau5, this stunning 2015 McLaren P1 will be selling with No Reserve in Las Vegas.

Following the successful launch of the MP4-12C, McLaren’s first road model produced since the brilliant Le Mans-winning F1 of the 1990s, the company’s stunning P1 plug-in hybrid sports car debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Sales commenced during October 2013 along a strictly limited production run, with buyer demand so intense that orders for all 375 cars were sold by the next month. Competing directly with the forthcoming Porsche 918 Spyder and LaFerrari, the McLaren P1 helped ignite the extreme-performance “hypercar” rivalry of the mid-2010s and beyond. Now, one very exceptional example of the P1 will be offered at the 2021 Las Vegas Auction with No Reserve.

Built with equal measures of extreme lightness and exceptional strength, the P1 is based upon a carbon monocoque chassis derived from McLaren’s competition heritage, weighing just over 198 pounds. The high-strength aluminum wheels, measuring 19 inches in diameter up front and 20 inches in the rear, follow the same principles, weighing just 17.5 and 20 pounds, respectively. Weight-saving measures extend to the windshield, just 3.2 millimeters thick and reinforced with a plastic interlayer, cutting 7.7 pounds over that of the prior 12C. Inside, carpeting was deleted for further weight reduction. Non-lacquered interior carbon fiber shaves another 3 pounds off of the P1.

All these designed-in features contribute to the P1’s extremely low 3,075 pounds total dry weight, yielding extremely high performance in concert with the car’s amazing hybrid powertrain rated at 903 total horsepower, including McLaren’s proprietary, twin-turbocharged DOHC 3.8-liter V8 engine and single electric motor, with power routed through a competition-type dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle-shift manual capability.

A unique, purpose-built design not shared with any other McLaren, the mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V8 of the P1 deserves special mention. Based upon a completely new engine casting equipped with competition-type dry-sump lubrication, a flat-plane crankshaft and the aforementioned twin turbochargers plus intercoolers, the P1’s 3.8-liter V8 develops 727 peak horsepower and a soul-stirring aural soundtrack at 7,300 engine revolutions. The P1’s single electric motor is optimized to negate turbo lag under hard acceleration; producing 176 horsepower, it raises total P1 output to a mind-bending 903-horsepower factory-advertised power rating.
