Following a somewhat successful AMA Supercross campaign this year despite an interruption by the COVID-19 pandemic, Honda is announcing the latest version of its motocross machine – 2021 CRF450R. The new CRF450R – along with other related Honda motorcyles – comes with a number of improvements and it is slated to go on sale as early as September 2020.
The new 2021 Honda CRF450R builds on its “Razor Sharp Cornering” design philosophy to deliver improved power — especially on corner exits – and improved handling, as well as a more consistent lap times compared to the 2020 CRF450 dirt bike. For instance, the bike’s Unicam engine features an updated decompression system, intake and exhaust for better performance in the low- and mid-range.
Furthermore, the twin-spar aluminum frame of the CRF450R 2021 has been lightened and updated to improve cornering performance while a new swing-arm was installed to enhance rear traction. The 2021 model also features a new stouter clutch with hydraulic activation and a lighter lever pull. In addition, the motocross bike features new bodywork and seat.
All of the updates made on the 2021 Honda CRF450R also trickled down to its siblings, in particular the CRF450RWE motocross bike and the off-road-focused CRF450RX, which features new handguards. The Baja 1000 icon CRF450X and the dual-sport CRF450RL are bound to return for 2021, now with handguards and updated graphics. Also returning to scene are the CB500X ABS and the TRX 90X with updated graphics and color-matching front shock springs.

Due to arrive in September are the 2021 Honda CRF450R ($9,599; Red), the 2021 CRF450RL ($10,399; Red), and the 2021 TRX90X ($3,199; Red or White). The 2021 Honda CRF450RX ($9,899; Red) and the 2021 CB500X ABS ($6,999; Matte Black Metallic) will be sold starting October. The 2021 CRF450RWE ($12,380; Red) will be available in November. The sales timing of the 2021 Honda CRF450X ($9,799; Red) wasn’t disclosed.
For those who wanted the 2020 Honda CRF450R – the production version of the bike raced by Team Honda HRC’s Ken Roczen and Justin Brayton in the recently concluded 2020 AMA Supercross season – there’s good news. Honda will continue selling the 2020 red model but with a reduced price of $8,599. This is a great development for riders seeking performance at a lower price.
